The 2014 Billboard Music Awards is a music award ceremony that was held on May 18, 2014, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. It aired live on ABC at 8:00/7:00 PM Central.[1] The show was hosted by Ludacris. Justin Timberlake won seven of his 11 nominations, including top artist, top male artist and top Billboard 200 Artist for his The 20/20 Experience. Leading the nominees were Imagine Dragons and Lorde, each with 12 nominations. Katy Perry had 10 nominations, including top artist, top female and Hot 100 artist. Miley Cyrus received nine nominations, including top artist, top female, Hot 100 artist and top streaming artist. Macklemore & Ryan Lewis had eight nominations, including top duo/group. At the ceremony, Jennifer Lopez received the Icon Award, which recognizes lifetime achievement and an artist's remarkable and enduring contribution to popular music. She becomes the fourth artist and the first woman to obtain the award, joining past winners including Neil Diamond, Stevie Wonder and Prince. The 2014 Billboard Music Awards is produced by Dick Clark Productions. Allen Shapiro and Mike Mahan are executive producers, with Barry Adelman, Mark Bracco, and Larry Klein as producers.

The 41st American Music Awards was held on November 24, 2013 at the Nokia Theatre L.A. Live in Los Angeles. The awards recognized the most popular artists and albums from the year 2013. It broadcasted live on ABC and CTV with Simultaneous substitution. The nominations were announced on October 10, 2013, by Kelly Clarkson and will.i.am. Macklemore & Ryan Lewis led the nominations with six, followed by Taylor Swift and Justin Timberlake with 5. The show was hosted by Pitbull.

The 2013 MTV EMAs (also known as the MTV Europe Music Awards) was held at the Ziggo Dome, Amsterdam, Netherlands, on 10 November 2013. This was the first time since 1997 when the awards where held in the Netherlands. The nominees were announced live on MTV Netherlands at 12:55 (CET) on September 17, 2013. The nominees press launch aired at various times throughout the day on localized MTV channels across Europe. Fans can vote for nominated artists from their respective territory starting Tuesday 17 September. The local winners will receive an EMA award and also move on to the next phase of voting starting Friday 25 October and compete for the regional title. The 10 official Worldwide Act nominees from each region will then be announced on Monday 1 November, and battle for the Worldwide Act Award.

mtvU has its own annual awards show, the Woodie Awards, which they say recognizes "the music voted best by college students." Previous winners have included 2005's Death Cab for Cutie, Motion City Soundtrack, and The Afters; 2006 winners include 30 Seconds to Mars, Plain White T's, mewithoutYou, The Subways and Gnarls Barkley. The 2006 ceremony was also notable for the altercation of Elijah Wood and Scott from the music blog Stereogum with Jared Leto. The 2008 awards had a huge fan voting for the Best Music On Campus award, where The Bride Wore Black won the award and Chasing Arrows came in right behind. Winners at the 2008 Woodie Awards included Paramore and There for Tomorrow. Winners at the 2009 Woodie Awards included Green Day, Kings of Leon, Matt & Kim, NeverShoutNever, Tech N9ne and Hotel of the Laughing Tree.
