The 2014 Teen Choice Awards was held on August 10, 2014 at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. The event was originally scheduled for the UCLA Pauley Pavilion, which was flooded by a broken water pipe on July 29, 2014 near the campus. It was broadcast on Fox at 8:00-10:00 PM ET live/PT tape-delayed. The awards celebrate the year's achievements in music, film, television, sports, fashion, comedy, video games and the Internet, and are voted on by mostly female teenage viewers aged 13 through 19. Selena Gomez has been awarded the Ultimate Choice Award during the show in recognition of her extraordinary contributions to the entertainment industry. One Direction were the biggest winners of the night, winning all ten awards they were nominated for (including an award given out to Harry Styles and one dedicated to their fans). This brought their Teen Choice Awards total to nineteen and continued their perfect record. The Fault in Our Stars won all seven of its nominations as well, including four awards for Ansel Elgort.

In just her ninth Broadway engagement, McDonald established two records as the first actor to win six Tony Awards for acting and the first to win in all four categories, lead and featured in both a play and a musical. In its seventh Broadway incarnation, The Glass Menagerie won its first Tony Award (Lighting Design).

The awards show was held immediately after the Adult Entertainment Expo at the same venue. Underworld took top honors as Movie of the Year, also winning best drama and seven other awards, including a directing award for Brad Armstrong. Remy LaCroix won Best Actress for her role in The Temptation of Eve, a romance, while Tommy Pistol was named Best Actor for his performance as Ashley J. Wiliams in adult horror film Evil Head. The coveted AVN Female Performer of the Year Award and AVN Best New Starlet Award went to Bonnie Rotten and Mia Malkova respectively. Axel Braun won Director of the Year for a record fourth consecutive time and Manuel Ferrara was awarded a record fifth Male Performer of the Year award. The new category of BBW Performer of the Year was won by April Flores. The Clever Title of the Year award was won by Seymore Butts for Cirque du Hole-A.

The Academy of Country Music Awards were first held in 1966, honoring the industry's accomplishments during the previous year. It was the first country music awards program held by a major organization. The Academy's signature "hat" trophy was created in 1968. The awards were first televised in 1972 on ABC. In 1979, the Academy joined with Dick Clark Productions to produce the show. Dick Clark and Al Schwartz served as producers while Gene Weed served as director. Under their guidance, the show moved to NBC and finally to CBS, where it remains today.

In 2003, the awards show left Los Angeles and moved to Las Vegas at the Mandalay Bay Events Center. The show is now held at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. The Academy also adopted a sleeker, modern version of the "hat" trophy that year, which is now made by New York firm Society Awards. In 2004 the organization implemented online awards voting for its professional members, becoming the first televised awards show to do so. The 48th Academy of Country Music Awards was broadcast live on April 7, 2013 and co-hosted by Luke Bryan and Blake Shelton. Both are also nominated for Entertainer of the Year.

The 56th Annual Grammy Awards was held on January 26, 2014, at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. The show was broadcast on CBS at 8 p.m. ET/P. The show was moved to January to avoid competing against the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi. The eligibility period for the 56th Annual Grammy Awards was October 1, 2012 to September 30, 2013. The nominations were announced on December 6, 2013 during a live televised concert on CBS, The Grammy Nominations Concert Live – Countdown to Music's Biggest Night. Jay-Z received the most nominations with nine. Justin Timberlake, Kendrick Lamar, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis and Pharrell Williams all got seven nominations. Daft Punk and Pharrell Williams were nominated twice for both Album of the Year and Record of the Year. Sound engineer Bob Ludwig received the most nominations by a non-performing artist, with five. At the awards ceremony on 26 January, Daft Punk won five awards including album of the year, while Macklemore and Ryan Lewis won four trophies and led an industry show of support for gay marriage. Carole King was honored as MusiCares Person of the Year on January 24, two days prior to the awards ceremony. On June 4, 2013, the Recording Academy approved a number of changes recommended by its Awards & Nominations Committee: A new category for Best American Song has been added to the American Music field. It is a songwriter's award, which will encompass all the subgenres in this field such as Americana, bluegrass, blues, folk and regional roots music. The Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance category will be renamed Best Metal Performance and becomes a stand-alone category. Hard rock performances will now be screened in the Best Rock Performance category. The Music Video field will become the Best Music Video/Film field. Its two categories will be renamed: Best Short Form Music Video will now be known as Best Music Video and Best Long Form Music Video will change into Best Music Film. These changes bring the total number of categories at the 2014 Grammy Awards to 82, up from 81 at the 2013 Grammy Awards.
