Yoshito Sato grew up with his mother Yasue after his father passed away. His mother ran a yakiniku restaurant that his father had left behind. Yoshito enjoyed eating his mother's cooking and their restaurant was loved by many people. Things changed after popular food critic Tatsuya Furuyama published false statements about their yakiniku restaurant. Due to that, their restaurant saw a sharp drop in customers. Yasue worked hard to recover business for the restaurant. Due to Yoshito's behavior in wanting attention from his mom, Yasue decided to shut down the restaurant. Eighteen years later, Yoshito lives alone and he works as a freelance writer. One day, he takes work for a new online foodie website. He works with editor Shizuka Takenaka. Their first assignment involves yakiniku. Around that time, Yoshito hears that his estranged mother Yasue has collapsed.

Tokuro Akamatsu runs a transport company. One day, a truck owned by Tokuro Akamatsu is involved in an accident. A tire came off the truck and killed passengers in another car. At first, Tokuro Akamatsu doubts that poor maintenance was the cause and he soon discovers a defect in the truck. Tokuro Akamatsu demands a reexamination by car manufacturer Hopu. The company moves slowly in their reexamination which causes Tokuro Akamatsu to investigate the issue by himself. He uncovers a truth that the Hopu is trying to hide.

During the reign of the eighth shogun of the Tokugawa shogunate, the Yunagaya Domain in the Tohoku region is a small han. But at the han, there is a gold mine. Suddenly, Masaatsu Naito of Yunagaya Domain receives an order to perform Sankin-kotai within 5 days. Sankin-kotai is a custom that requires the daimyo to visit the shogun in Edo. Unfortunately, the time needed to visit the shogun in Edo for Masaatsu Naito is 8 days. Masaatsu Naito also learns he received the order because a high ranking government official wants the gold mine. Also, the expense for Sankin-kotai is high and the Yunagaya Domain is such a small han that it seems impossible to complete. Nevertheless, Masaatsu Naito begins an unexpected operation to complete Sankin-kotai in 5 days.

Kyutaro is a swordsman who was feared by people at one time. Now, he is poor and lives alone quietly. Kyutaro doesn‘t know how to earn money without using his sword. By chance, Sakichi happens to see Kyutaro‘s swordsmanship and offers to hire him for a job. Sakichi wants Kyutaro to kill a white cat named `Tamanojoh` which his boss Yozaemon is fascinated by. According to Sakichi, after Yozaemon began to raise the cat, he changed to a childlike person. Kyutaro initially turns him down thinking its an absurd request, but decides to take the job for the money. When Kyutaro opens the door to where the cat is, he sees the lovely white cat.
