Tokuro Akamatsu runs a transport company. One day, a truck owned by Tokuro Akamatsu is involved in an accident. A tire came off the truck and killed passengers in another car. At first, Tokuro Akamatsu doubts that poor maintenance was the cause and he soon discovers a defect in the truck. Tokuro Akamatsu demands a reexamination by car manufacturer Hopu. The company moves slowly in their reexamination which causes Tokuro Akamatsu to investigate the issue by himself. He uncovers a truth that the Hopu is trying to hide.

In 1940, Masaaki Takaoka works as a teacher in the agricultural division at a youth training institute. All of his students are drafted into the war which is nearing its end. He makes everyone promise that they will all meet again under the cherry blossoms upon their safe return. His students soon perish in the war. Masaaki Takaoka is wracked with guilt over their deaths. To comfort the spirits of his dead students, Masaaki Takaoka attempts to develop a new species of cherry blossoms which can bloom under any environmental conditions from subtropical to Siberia cold weather (where his students died).

Love and Honor / Bushi no ichibun (2006)

Shinnojo Mimura is a lower-ranked samurai who is employed by his clan as a poison taster. He has lived a thrifty but happy life with his beautiful wife Kayo and their old servant Tokuhei. However, his happiness comes to an end when he becomes blind after eating shellfish that is accidentally put into the lunch for the clan. Shinnojo cannot stand spending the rest of his life in darkness, so he tries to kill himself, but Kayo and Tokuhei manage to save his life, and he gradually becomes used to living without sight. Yet, one day Shinnojo finds out that Kayo has a relationship with the head clerk, Toya Shimada: in return for his recommendation for Shinnojo's position in the castle, he has demanded her body, and Shinnojo decides to divorce her. But when Shinnojo eventually figures out that Shimada merely took his pleasure with Kayo, he challenges the man to a duel.

Thermae Romae II / Terumae romae II (2014)

In ancient Rome, bathhouse architect Lucius (Hiroshi Abe) becomes famous with designing the original "thermae" (bathhouse). He receives an order to build a thermae in the colosseum to help gladiators recover from their wounds, but faces difficulties. Thus, Lucius travels again to modern day Japan through the time slip. He meets Manami (Aya Ueto) again, who is now a reporter for a magazine which covers bathroom. With the help of the flat face Japanese tribe, Lucius again designs a new thermae. Meanwhile, Emperor Hadrian (Masachika Ichimura) wants to keep the peace with the thermae, but the Senate wants to extend the land by using force. Emperor Hadrian and the Senate now have a confrontation and Rome becomes divided.
