The 2014 Billboard Music Awards is a music award ceremony that was held on May 18, 2014, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. It aired live on ABC at 8:00/7:00 PM Central.[1] The show was hosted by Ludacris. Justin Timberlake won seven of his 11 nominations, including top artist, top male artist and top Billboard 200 Artist for his The 20/20 Experience. Leading the nominees were Imagine Dragons and Lorde, each with 12 nominations. Katy Perry had 10 nominations, including top artist, top female and Hot 100 artist. Miley Cyrus received nine nominations, including top artist, top female, Hot 100 artist and top streaming artist. Macklemore & Ryan Lewis had eight nominations, including top duo/group. At the ceremony, Jennifer Lopez received the Icon Award, which recognizes lifetime achievement and an artist's remarkable and enduring contribution to popular music. She becomes the fourth artist and the first woman to obtain the award, joining past winners including Neil Diamond, Stevie Wonder and Prince. The 2014 Billboard Music Awards is produced by Dick Clark Productions. Allen Shapiro and Mike Mahan are executive producers, with Barry Adelman, Mark Bracco, and Larry Klein as producers.

The 2013 MTV EMAs (also known as the MTV Europe Music Awards) was held at the Ziggo Dome, Amsterdam, Netherlands, on 10 November 2013. This was the first time since 1997 when the awards where held in the Netherlands. The nominees were announced live on MTV Netherlands at 12:55 (CET) on September 17, 2013. The nominees press launch aired at various times throughout the day on localized MTV channels across Europe. Fans can vote for nominated artists from their respective territory starting Tuesday 17 September. The local winners will receive an EMA award and also move on to the next phase of voting starting Friday 25 October and compete for the regional title. The 10 official Worldwide Act nominees from each region will then be announced on Monday 1 November, and battle for the Worldwide Act Award.

No matter who we are, no matter where we live, we're all bound by borders. Many of us are content to live within these borders–others are simply forced to exist within them. But some of us need to break out, burst through, even if what is on the other side is both frightening and unknown. From this comes the tale of one young man's dilemma as he navigates his way through his colliding worlds. Set against Detroit's hip-hop scene in 1995, Jimmy Smith Jr., a young white rapper, struggles to find his voice. The people of Detroit know 8 Mile Road as the city's perimeter. It is also a psychological dividing line between urban and suburban, between black and white, between where Jimmy is and where he wants to be. Here, survival is key, and for many, the emotional life preserver is hip hop. In the absence of nurturing parents, Jimmy and his friends–cool and charasmatic Future, optimistic dreamer Sol, aspiring activist DJ Iz and slow but steady Cheddar Bob–have created their own family. Jimmy and his "crew" (Three One Third), live on hopes of getting their "big break" while struggling to eke out a living at their dead end day jobs. At night, they feed their dreams in the hip hop clubs where the city's best rappers battle each other with abusive rhymes that are wielded like weapons. Here, words are meant to wound and victory belongs to the quick-witted.
