Ichi seeking peace in a village he remembers fondly, finds it a changed place, controlled by Boss Masagoro, the son of a merchant rumored to have gold stolen from the shogunate. The boss has hired a hard-drinking Yojimbo as his enforcer, but he in turn is both a spy tracking the gold for the shogunate, and in love with the merchant's unwilling mistress. Ichi works as the merchant's masseur and buys the mistress' freedom with his employer's own money. This upsets Yojimbo. With the two heroes quarreling will they kill each other or become allies fighting for the same cause?
