For Leni Reimann (Hannah Herzsprung) a world collapses as she realizes her husband-to-be has been cheating on her for months. Thoroughly depressed, she flees to her sister Hannah's (Karoline Herfurth) shared flat. She, however, is not exactly the right person to console her, since she also struggles with severe private and professional problems. Rather, the sisters' mutual tower of strength is their best friend Vivi (Palina Rojinski), who shares her recipe for avoiding a broken heart by dating many men in quick succession and not getting emotionally attached. All three of them also care for Margaux (Iris Berben), the sisters' mum, who was recently left by her husband for a younger woman after 35 years of marriage. On their quest for true love the four women stumble through an obstacle course of infidelities, one-night-stands, embarrassments, small triumphs and big disappointments. No wonder that the ideal man tends to be overlooked – even if he is as charming and honest as Joseph (Elyas M'Barek).

Crimes of the Future details the wanderings of Tripod (Mlodzik), sometime director of a dermatological clinic called the House of Skin, who is searching for his mentor, the mad dermatologist Antoine Rouge. Rouge has disappeared following a catastrophic plague resulting from cosmetic products, which has killed the entire population of sexually mature women. Tripod joins a succession of organisations including Metaphysical Import-Export and the Oceanic Podiatry Group, and meets various individuals and groups of men who are trying to adjust themselves to a defeminized world. One man parodies childbirth by continually growing new organs which are removed from his body. Eventually Tripod comes upon a group of paedophiles which is holding a 5 year-old girl, and they urge him to mate with her. He senses the presence of Antoine Rouge.

Mr. Wu is kidnapped in Beijing by Zhang Hua and three accomplices, all disguised as cops and demanding a ransom of 3 million RMB. In the ensuing 20 hours, the Chinese detectives led by Chief Xing quickly form a task force and sweep the city. Time is of the essence though as Mr. Wu is ordered to be killed at 9pm regardless of whether the money is collected or not. The police eventually apprehend Hua alone and a dangerous mental showdown develops between police interrogators and Hua.
