Prosk's children eagerly await their grandmother's arrival at the Old Bleacher. After a rushed woman, she immediately gets them with kindness and wisdom. It is equally easy to establish a relationship with neighbors who soon begin to confess with their pain. The oldest woman gets the story of a crazy Viktorka who, like a girl, falls in love with the hunter, walks with him, and perhaps lives happily. But the man fell in the army, and she returned to her native village. But she could not live among the people, she wandered through the woods, once she had killed a falling tree in the thunderstorms. The grandmother could not help this unfortunate. There is, however, Christ and her James, who is to leave for fourteen years in the war, and then the Princess Horn of Hortensia, who is worried about the love of the painter. When a grandmother acquires the affection of the princess, she confesses to the young couple and also gets a place for the poor Kudrnu.
