Forever Love / Hollywood Taiwan / A Ma De Meng Zhong Qing Ren (2013)
Comedy | Romance
Taipei, spring 2013. Hsiao Chieh (Li Yi-chieh) visits her 70-year-grandfather, Liu Chi-sheng (Lung Shao-hua), in hospital after he fell of his bike when cycling around the island. As a young man in the late '60s, Chi-sheng was the hottest scriptwriter in the local Hokkien-dialect section of the film industry, sometimes working on seven scripts simultaneously and employed by Hsiao Chih-kao (Liao Jun) at his studio Chih Kao Pictures in Peitou, a northern suburb of Taipei. Hsiao Chieh grew up watching films in a cinema, the Hollywood Theatre, that Chi-sheng owned later in life. His wife, Chiang Mei-yueh (Shen Hai-jung), is now losing her mind, imagining she is Chin Yueh-feng, a popular actress from the '60s. In hospital, Chi-sheng tells Hsiao Chieh stories from the high days of his career. Summer 1969: one of his scripts, secret-agent adventure Spy No. 7 premieres at the Hollywood Theatre, with Hokkien-dialect superstars Wan Pao-lung (Edison Wang) and Chin Yueh-feng (Tien Hsin) in attendance. Chi-sheng first meets the young Mei-yueh (Amber An) – a huge fan of Pao-lung since the hit melodrama, I Love You to My Bones, which Chi-sheng wrote – as she tries to sneak in without a ticket. Chi-sheng later re-meets her when she attends auditions held by the studio, and helps her get a part in the follow-up production, Spy No. 7 on Monster Island. When aged director Li (Chen Ping-nan) dies during production, Chi-sheng is asked to take over by his boss, and he revises the script into "a romantic espionage fantasy epic", Spy No. 7: On the Moon for Love, with Mei-yueh taking on the lead female role when Yueh-feng goes AWOL in a tiff. Chi-sheng and Mei-yueh fall in love, but the days of Hokkien-dialect movies are already numbered as the government decrees that all films should henceforth be made in the Mandarin dialect.

Joyful Reunion / Yin shi nan nü – Hao yuan you hao jin (2012)
Comedy | Romance
Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, China, the present day. Master chef Tang Shizhe (Kenneth Tsang) tells his two daughters, the careerist Wa'er (Huo Siyan) and teenage Xiaolan (Jiang Mengjie), that he has decided to sell his upscale vegetarian restaurant, the centre of his life for 30 years. Wa'er manages a luxury health resort and is dating Chang Chuan (Blue Lan), a computer-games designer from Taiwan. Chang Chuan goes to Taipei to visit his aunt, Pai Ping (Rose Kuei), who effectively raised him, and she ends up accompanying him back to Hangzhou, where she originally grew up but hasn't re-visited since leaving for Taiwan in her teens. Pai Ping meets Wa'er but her forthrightness often proves embarrassing in the sophisticated circles Wa'er moves in. Pai Ping notices, however, that Bei Ming (Chang Hsiao-chuan), general manager of the luxury health-resort group, is also romancing Wa'er, who feels neglected by Chang Chuan in favour of his work. One day Pai Ping tells Wa'er her story – how she was born in Hunan province, moved when young to Hangzhou where she worked in the restaurant business, and finally moved to Taiwan – and the two women bond. When Shizhe reveals the real reason for selling his restaurant, Wa'er resigns from her job to help him out and be with him. Meanwhile, Shizhe, who has not yet met Pai Ping, decides to cook a special meal to welcome her.
