Excitement runs high when the feuding film stars Marina Rudd (Elizabeth Taylor) and Lola Brewster (Kim Novak) arrive in the sleepy English village of St Mary Mead, ready to begin work on a movie about Elizabeth I and Lady Jane Grey. A group of illegal immigrants travel from Hong Kong to South Korea in a container. However, when the container arrives, the Korean smugglers discover that all of them are dead except for one, a carrier of a deadly strain of avian flu. The survivor escapes, spreading the flu throughout the city in hours. Soon, thousands are infected and dying within 36 hours. To contain the virus, the government quarantines the entire suburb.
