Virat (Akshay Kumar) is among a battalion of military officers that comes to Mumbai on vacation. Virat is also a secret Defence Intelligence Agent who cannot lie low, much to the irritation of his friend and sub inspector. During a bus ride, an attempt to frisk passengers for a lost wallet leads Virat to something much bigger. Within minutes, the bus is blown into pieces and he helps cops nab the carrier of the bomb, who escapes from the hospital only to be caught by Virat again. Using tact, Virat follows one clue at a time hoping to track down the terrorist on whose orders the sleeper cell terrorists plan to cause mayhem in Mumbai.

Sub-Inspector Mohit Kumar joins Delhi Police' Crime Branch and is instructed to work under the supervision of Senior Police Inspector Hanumant Singh, who lives with his wife and school-going son, Nikhil. Mohit witnesses Hanumant's family come under attack and becomes sympathetic – especially when the media – including his Aaj Tak Reporter and girlfriend, Varsha Mathur – criticizes him. Mohit does change his mind about Hanumant when he witnesses the latter break the laws as well as accept bribes and shares it with other police officers with impunity. Mohit will not only face career and personal challenges when he decides to oppose politically-connected Hanumant, but also when Varsha, along with two other journalists, will be abducted by Islamic terrorists.

A statue in a town's square narrates to a journalist the story of 9th standard-failed, unemployed, trouble-maker and stutterer Premshankar Sharma. Premshankar, cons Mr. Pinto into buying a dilapidated flat to pay for expenses of the Happy Club over which he presides, much to the disapproval of his restaurateur father, Shivshankar, who wants him to wed Shakuntala Mishra. Premshankar's life will undergo many changes after he falls in love with Pinto's adopted daughter, Jenny. He believes that she also loves him, and even helps her to elope after her parents force her to wed wealthy Tony. Premshankar ends up in despair when he finds out that Jenny's true love is Canada-based Rahul, the son of wealthy politician, Pitambar Jalan.
