Cookie's Fortune unfolds over an eventful Easter weekend in the small town of Holly Springs, Mississippi. The town residents are peaceful, kind folk — with the exception of Camille Dixon — a pushy theatre director with an incredibly shy younger sister, Cora, whose estranged daughter Emma has just returned to town. On the heels of her latest play, Camille is shocked to discover that her Aunt Jewel Mae "Cookie" Orcutt has committed suicide. Terrified at the thought of how this will tarnish the family name, she eats the suicide note to make it look like a burglary. This set-up leads the police to one main suspect, Willis Richland, who also happens to be Cookie's best friend.

The 88th Academy Awards ceremony, presented by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), honored the best films of 2015 and took place on February 28, 2016, at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles, having begun at 5:30 p.m. PST / 8:30 p.m. EST. On February 13, 2016, in a ceremony at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Beverly Hills, California, the Academy Awards for Technical Achievement were presented by hosts Olivia Munn and Jason Segel. Mad Max: Fury Road won six awards, the most for the evening, and The Revenant won three out of 12 total nominations. Other winners include Spotlight, which won two, including Best Picture, with A Girl in the River: The Price of Forgiveness, Amy, Bear Story, The Big Short, Bridge of Spies, The Danish Girl, Ex Machina, The Hateful Eight, Inside Out, Room, Son of Saul, Spectre, and Stutterer each winning one.

The 68th British Academy Film Awards, more commonly known as the BAFTAs, was held on 8 February 2015 at the Royal Opera House in London, to honour the best British and international contributions to film in 2014. Presented by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA), accolades are handed out for the best in feature-length film and documentaries of any nationality, that were screened at British cinemas during 2014. The nominees were announced on 9 January by Stephen Fry and actor Sam Claflin. The American film Boyhood won three of its five nominations, including Best Film. The Theory of Everything was named Best British Film, while The Lego Movie won Best Animated Film and Citizenfour Best Documentary. Eddie Redmayne and Julianne Moore won the Best Actor and Best Actress in a Leading Role awards, respectively, while J. K. Simmons and Patricia Arquette won the Best Actor and Best Actress in a Supporting Role awards. The Grand Budapest Hotel won five of its eleven nominations, the most of any film. Jack O'Connell won the Rising Star award. The ceremony was broadcast on BBC One and BBC Three. It was hosted by Stephen Fry for the tenth time in the award's history. The ceremony opened with a performance from British rock band Kasabian.
