Freedom (2014)

Two men separated by 100 years are united in their search for freedom. In 1856 a slave, Samuel Woodward and his family, escape from the Monroe Plantation near Richmond, Virginia. A secret network of ordinary people known as the Underground Railroad guide the family on their journey north to Canada. They are relentlessly pursued by the notorious slave hunter Plimpton. Hunted like a dog and haunted by the unthinkable suffering he and his forbears have endured, Samuel is forced to decide between revenge or freedom. 100 years earlier in 1748, John Newton the Captain of a slave trader sails from Africa with a cargo of slaves, bound for America. On board is Samuel's great grandfather whose survival is tied to the fate of Captain Newton. The voyage changes Newton's life forever and he creates a legacy that will inspire Samuel and the lives of millions for generations to come.

Lord Jim (1965)

James Burke, after distinguishing himself as a midshipman in the British merchant marine, rapidly rises to the rank of executive officer, second in command of a ship. A broken foot necessitates that he be put ashore to heal. After his recovery, the very proud Jim – his pride rooted in his competence, which had made him a highly respected and admired naval officer – signs on as the executive officer of the Patna, a rusty tub manned by a third-rate crew overseen by a barbarous captain, that is transporting a group of Moslem pilgrims to Mecca. During a severe storm that causes the unseaworthy ship to founder, Jim abandons ship with the rest of the white crew without even lowering the other lifeboat for the passengers.

We Are Monster (2014)

We Are Monster is based on the shocking true story of Robert Stewart and his brutal murder of Zahid Mubarek on February 8, 2000 at Feltham Young Offenders Institute. Despite being a known racist and highly violent, Stewart was still placed in a cell with Mubarek, a young Asian man who was due to be released in 6 weeks and had only been convicted of petty theft. Over this six week period, Stewart, with his unbalanced mind and deep seated racist tendencies, was allowed by the prison s indifference to become the 'monster' he always wanted to be. Hours before Mubarek's release, Stewart murdered him in an unprovoked attack.

Looking for work, Aaron (Patrick Brice) comes across a cryptic online ad: "$1,000 for the day. Filming service. Discretion is appreciated." Low on cash and full of naiveté, he decides to go for it. He drives to a cabin in a remote mountain town where he meets Josef (Mark Duplass), his cinematic subject for the day. Josef is sincere and the project seems heartfelt, so Aaron begins to film. But as the day goes on, it becomes clear that Josef is not who he says, and his intentions are not at all pure. The directorial debut of Patrick Brice and produced by Jason Blum (Paranormal Activity, Insidious) and Mark Duplass (Safety Not Guaranteed), Creep's intense interplay between its two protagonists upends expectations at every turn.

Danny and Phil are a pair of underachieving cousins who happen to be related to Pete O Donnell, the crazy owner of a hole-in-the-wall pub on Long Island. With the bar losing money, Pete makes the mistake of going on a drunken rampage, getting himself thrown in jail right when the banks are preparing to foreclose. Pete calls on Danny and Phil to run the bar while he s locked up, and together they try a number of schemes, including turning it into a high school speakeasy, just to keep it afloat.
